2. New Mailing Lists Created: HWG-XML and HWG-Style
(Kynn Bartlett, Guild President, kynn@hwg.org)
Based on feedback from our members (and thanks to all of you who wrote
to us after the last newsletter), the Governing Board has created the
following new mailing lists, open to all members of the Guild:
HWG-XML
This list is used by members of the HTML Writers Guild
for discussing and sharing experience with the eXtensible
Markup Language (XML) and XML applications, such as XHTML
and XSL. Related topics, such as the use of style sheets
or scripting languages with XML, are also on-topic.
HWG-STYLE
This list is used by members of the HTML Writers Guild
for discussing and exchanging advice regarding the use of
style sheets and related technologies to control presentation
of web content. Cascading Style Sheets (levels 1, 2, and 3),
XSL, DSSSL, and other web style sheet languages are on-topic
for this list.
The HWG-Style list replaces the hwg-plus-stylesheets list, which
was previously open only to Full (paid) members of the Guild.
For more information or to subscribe to the lists, please see the
Guild's website at:
http://www.hwg.org/lists/hwg-xml/
http://www.hwg.org/lists/hwg-style/
3. Do You Have the "Write Stuff"? Bookstore Features HWG Authors
(Dain Anderson, Bookmark Manager, bookstore@hwg.org)
Are you an author?
The Bookmark, HWG Online Bookstore, is looking for Guild members who are
published computer book authors. If your books (computing topics only
please) are available online through Barnes and Noble (www.bn.com), tell
us about it, and you may be featured in our store!
Send details to:
mailto:bookstore@hwg.org
Please provide: Book title, publisher, ISBN, authors (cover credited),
supporting web site URL (if one exists).
The Bookmark staff reserves the right to review all submissions for
pertinency to our audience and appropriateness for inclusion.
4. Announcing a New Program: The HWG Speakers Bureau
(Frank Boumphrey, Vice President - Special Events, vp-events@hwg.org)
The HTML Writers Guild is pleased to announce the creation of the
new HWG Speakers Bureau. The purpose of this program is to list
qualified speakers on topics of interest to the HTML community.
To qualify for this list you should have the following qualifications
1. Be an expert in your topic.
2. Be a fluent and accomplished speaker.
3. Have had experience speaking to a large audience.
Speakers who meet these qualifications will be informed of any call for
papers for national meetings received by the HWG, and will go into
a database of speakers. They may also be invited to speak at HWG
sponsored events.
If you think you might qualify please forward a brief biography to
vp-events@hwg.org together with a list of topics you feel qualified to
speak on. In addition to your address, phone number, and other
contact information, please include a short statement outlining your
experience, and the reasons that you think you are the person who
should speak on your subject(s) of choice (Don't be coy!). Please
put "HWG Speakers Bureau" in the subject line.
Successful candidates may be asked to provide a outline and a set of
Powerpoint or HTML slides on a topic of choice for further evaluation.
We are also implementing a category of "Senior Speaker". Senior
speakers may be asked to speak as HWG authorized speakers at national
events. If you think you may fall into this category please add a
note to this effect and the reasons that you think you qualify as a
senior speaker.
