4. AWARE Center Bulletin: Orange County, CA Lab Now Open!
(Kynn Bartlett, AWARE Center Director, aware@hwg.org)
The HTML Writers Guild sponsors the Accessible Web Authoring Resources
and Education (AWARE) Center, the premier web designer reference for
creating sites that can be used by anyone regardless of disability or
computer setup. The AWARE Center website is located at:
http://aware.hwg.org/
The AWARE Center is pleased to announce the opening of the Guild's
Assistive Web Technology Laboratory (AWTLab), on June 8, 1999 in
Fullerton, Orange County, California. The grand opening drew a broad
cross-section of local business and education leaders, high tech
industry representatives, representatives of other disability
assistive technology centers, and members of the HTML Writers Guild.
The purpose of the AWTLab is to provide Guild members with hands-on
demonstrations of the types of technology used by web surfers with
disabilities -- such as screen readers and voice browsers used by
visually impaired web users. Through exposure to this software and
hardware, web creators can learn what's necessary to create pages
that work for EVERYONE, regardless of disability!
If you are a member of the HTML Writers Guild -- and are near our
Southern California offices -- these computers are YOURS to use.
For open lab hours and schedules, or for more information, please see
the AWTLab homepage:
