  10. How do I send messages in plain text, while leaving HTML as the default?

While composing a message in a New Message Window, you can choose whether you want use plain-text or format your message in HTML by using Netscape Composer. In the New Message Window, if Netscape Composer appears in the message composition area, you are sending an HTML message. If the changes were made in the preferences before you open a new message, then there is no need to worry about this feature, because it is already set to default. But, were you to leave the default option checked in preferences, then you would need to do the following each time you want to send plain-text:In the Composer, choose:
    - view
    - options pane
    - at the lower right you will find a drop-down menu allowing you to change to the desired format. Additionally, there is an icon to the left of the addressing field that will bring you to the options.

  14. How do I set the filters for Netscape 4.5?

To add a filter for an HWG list in Netscape mail, click edit> message filters> new. An filter form will come up on the screen.

In the top box, type in a name for the filter such as "hwg-basic." In the first drop-down box select "sender" then click just below it "more" and a second drop down box appears. In the second drop down box, select "to or CC".

In the middle of the page, leave the default "contains" as is. On the right side of the page type hwg-basics in each of the two boxes.

Select the file you want to move your hwg-basic mail into. If you do not already have this file, click "new folder" and type in a name. By default, this will be a subfolder of "Inbox" but you may create a subfolder suchas "mail lists" if you have a lot of folders and wish to keep such mail separate from other mail. This precedure may be repeated with any other list you subscribe to.

And of course for other mail, eg letters from mom, you can specify a filter based on sender. Browse through the choices for ideas.

If you make a variety of filters, the order of them becomes important. Arrange your filters top to bottom starting with most specific ones first. Mail that doesn't make the narrow selection will move toward a more general one. If you start with the broadest category, all the mail will go there and subsequent filters wont have a chance to operate.

  18. How do I stop MS Internet Mail (IE3) sending those Winmail.dat files?

    Step #1:
Double-click on the Mail and Fax icon in Control Panel.
Click on the Services tab, and select Internet Mail from the list. If Internet Mail is not listed, click Add to add this service.
Click Properties, and then Message Format.
Turn off the option that reads Use MIME when sending messages.
Click OK and then OK again.
    Step #2:
Double-click on the name of each recipient in your Address Book.
Turn off the option that reads Always send to this recipient in Microsoft rich-text format.
This option needs to be set for each recipient of a message - if even one has this turned on, all recipients will still get the attachment.
Note: Either of these methods should work for most users, but sometimes nothing seems to work -
Note: A bug in Exchange may cause line feeds to be replaced with equal signs when rich-text mail is disabled.
