6. Guild Granted Tax-exempt Status

The HTML Writers Guild has been granted tax-exempt status by the United States Internal Revenue Service as an educational organization under section 501(c)3 of the revenue code.

This advance ruling allows U.S. resident members to deduct their HWG membership dues as a charitable contribution; members from other nations should consult local tax authorities to determine if this change in status affects them. (Please consult your tax advisor for complete details on 501(c)3 deductions.) Further information on the Guild's foundation status classification can be found at

7. From the List Guide Manager -- Tammy Scroggs

Back to Work

December has been a very busy month for the List Guide Program. As many of you are aware, the List Guide Program was on "official" vacation for the month of December. However, many of us did not take the opportunity to sit back and relax. A lot of work went on behind the scenes, including continued monitoring of daily list activity and discussion of some potential program changes. Interested list members may want to join -ops, as some program-related discussions are now taking place.

I'd like to thank the many list guides who volunteered their services to the program during the Governing Board-granted vacation and to the List Members who helped out in our absence.

The List Guide Program resumed its work on January 1, 1998.

Recruiting

The List Guide Program is always looking for knowledgeable people to serve as List Guides for the various Guild lists. For anyone considering volunteering, or just the curious, there are several List Guide Program Web pages available.

  1. http://www.hwg.org/lists/intro.html provides a program overview and includes such information as our program goals, general purpose, program structure, and standard operating procedures.
  2. http://www.hwg.org/lists/application.html provides a thorough description of the application process and the information necessary for the Recruiting Committee to evaluate candidates.

Still have questions about volunteering? Feel free to write us at lg-recruiting@hwg.org.

Special Thanks

I'd like to take a few minutes to thank Andrew Stevens, the Volunteer Coordinator, for all the help and assistance he has given us in recent months. Andrew, we couldn't have done it without you.

Program Promotions and Farewells

I'd like to thank and say public farewell to two of our longest-term List Guides, Ben Eysselinck and Tim Fairlie. These two gentlemen have been around since the early days of the Program and their efforts will be sorely missed.

And last but certainly not least, congratulations are in order for Nancy Coulter, who was recently promoted to Area Guide Manager, Patrick McElhaney, who was promoted to Senior List Guide of hwg-basics, and Mike Ebert, who was promoted to the Senior List Guide position for hwg-graphics.
